How to Set Up Your Wi-Fi® Pellet Grill: A Step-by-Step Pitmaster Walkthrough

Want to monitor temps and manage your cook from your phone? Work smarter, not harder with our Wi-Fi®-enabled pellet grills and Pit Boss® app. Here’s how to set up your Pit Boss Wi-Fi® Pellet Grill for success.

What You Need Before You Start

All you need to use your connected Pellet Grill is a home Wi-Fi® network and the Pit Boss app. It is available for download on the Apple App Store and Google Play for Android phones.

Step 1: Get started on the Pit Boss app

First, you’ll need to create your Pit Boss account. You’ll already have one if you purchased your smart pellet grill from our website and set up an account. Just type in your username and password from the website into the app.

If you checked out as a guest or purchased from one of our retailers, you’ll need to create an account. No problem. Just create a username and password.

Step 2: Connect your Wi-Fi® Pellet Grill to the Pit Boss app

Once you’re logged into the Pit Boss app from your smartphone, it’s time to connect to your smart pellet grill. Here’s how:

  1. Enable Bluetooth®  from your smartphone’s device settings. This is critical for connecting your pellet grill to the Wi-Fi®.

  2. Plug in and turn on your Pit Boss pellet grill. Only turn on one grill at a time until the Wi-Fi® connection is established.

  3. Select your grill on the Pit Boss app. Use the search function to find your model in the list.

  4. Connect your pellet grill to the Wi-Fi®. Select your Wi-Fi® network and enter your network password.

  5. Select “Control Your Grill” and Update Firmware. Do this and you’re done. Now you’re ready to grill.

Step 3: Cook with your Wi-Fi® Pellet Grill

Hand setting temperature on digital display of a grill.

Now that your pellet grill is connected to Wi-Fi®, it’s time for the fun part: grilling.

First, make sure your pellet grill has pellets in the hopper. We take pride in our pellets, so visit the Pit Boss Pellet Academy to see what makes ours the best.

Once your pellets are in the hopper, you’re ready to grill. Here’s everything you can do from the Pit Boss app:

  • Remote Temp Monitoring & Control: Set your desired temp (e.g. 250℉) and keep track throughout the cook.
  • Probe Tracking: You can keep track of probe temps too. This is great for monitoring different internal temps for a consistent cook.
  • Probe Temp Alerts: Set different target temps and get alerts once they have been reached.
  • Temp Adjustment: Need to make a change mid-cook? It’s easy to adjust the temp right from the Pit Boss app.
  • You can also monitor the Wi-Fi® and Bluetooth® connections and signal strengths.

You can check signal strength from the app. You may consider moving your Wi-Fi® router to a more central location without obstructions like thick walls or furniture or purchasing a Wi-Fi® extender.

App/Firmware updates

You may need to update your Pit Boss app. While you should automatically get a software update notification, you can also check for a firmware update from the Edit Grill icon on the same screen as the Control Your Grill button.
